Application Procedures

The Department of History expects all applicants to its graduate program to submit their applications online through the Graduate Admissions Office of the Columbian College. Applications will not be considered complete until all materials have been received.

If you are unable to use the online application process, please contact the Graduate Admissions Office to request a downloadable version of the necessary forms. Please send all admissions materials to:

Application Deadlines

Fall admission to the PhD program: January 15.
Fall admission to the MA program: April 1.
Spring admission to the MA program: October 1.

International applicants are required to submit additional materials before their applications may be considered. For more information, please consult the Graduate Admissions Office.

GRE code: Applicants should use 5246, the code for GW's Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. The History Department does not have a separate code.
