Julia Schiwal is a second year master's student in the Imperial and Colonial Studies program. She studies gender and sexuality in Central and Southwest Asia in the modern period. Although she is a historian, she actively applies historical lessons in her work with the USIP Religion and Inclusive Societies team. She is working on a thesis with Dr. Benjamin Hopkins and is a Graduate Student Assistant for Dr. Charles Kiamie.
She is from Montana, where she did her undergraduate at the University of Montana. Julia enjoys stillwater kayaking and oil painting.
