Alexa Price


Alexa Price is a 5th-year PhD candidate in British and Atlantic History. Her dissertation research focuses on popular memory, monuments and commemoration of the Age of Sail in late Victorian England. She is particularly interested in the roles of nostalgia and the communication of contemporary values and lessons in acts of historic preservation. Her paper, "Displaying the Wooden Walls of Old England: The HMS Foudroyant as a Monument to Lost Skills and Manhood, 1892-1897," which was presented at the Maritime Masculinities conference in Oxford, UK last December, will appear as a chapter in an upcoming edited volume.
