Charles F. Herber

Emeritus Faculty

Professor emeritus Charles F. Herber taught German history at the George Washington University until his retirement in 2000.  He continues to participate in annual German studies conferences around the U.S. Professor Herber is especially fascinated by the many traces of earlier German history he has found in northern Europe. While visiting the town of Alesund, Norway, Professor Herber discovered that after the small city burned down in 1904, German Kaiser Wilhelm II sent four warships with relief supplies and manpower and started a fund to rebuild the city.
