“Let Them Tremble”: Student Activism and Radical History in the 21st Century

The Department of History at the George Washington University invites students, staff, and faculty to attend a lecture and discussion with Tony Pecinovsky, historian, activist, and president of the St. Louis Workers' Education Society.

Tony Pecinovsky is the author of Let Them Tremble: Biographical Interventions Marking 100 Years of the Communist Party, USA, which will be published later this year by International Publishers. Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the CPUSA, the book highlights the life and times of Communist Party leaders Arnold Johnson, Charlene Mitchell, Gus Hall, Henry Winston, Judith LeBlanc and W. Alphaeus Hunton. Special attention is directed at communist activity in the post-1956 period and the second half of the 20th century. Pecinovsky is also the President of the St. Louis Workers' Education Society (WES), a 501c3 non-profit organization chartered by the St. Louis Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO as a Workers' Center. He will talk about the intersection of writing radical history, labor activism and workers’ rights.
