William Horne


William Horne graduated from Loyola University New Orleans in 2008 with a B.A. in history. After teaching for three years at De La Salle High School in New Orleans, Mr. Horne earned a M.A. in history from The George Washington University in 2013 and entered the PhD program in the fall of 2013. His research interests include race, labor, carcerality, capitalism, and emancipation, particularly in post-Civil War Louisiana. He is currently completing his dissertation, “Carceral State: Baton Rouge and its Plantation Environs Across Emancipation,” examining the ways in which white supremacy and capitalism each depended on restricting black freedom in the aftermath of slavery.
